Reactive power control relays are designed to reduce reactive power (inductive and capacitive) that is not used by the load and is drawn from the grid. When inductive power is drawn from the grid, the relay intervenes by removing a capacitor of appropriate value. If capacitive power is drawn from the grid, it intervenes by taking a shunt inductance of appropriate value. It thus attempts to reduce the inductive/active and capacitive/active speeds of the system. It is designed to provide more reasonable compensation in unbalanced inductive and capacitive systems with the RGT-MT18 TCR step.
